Variation in the grid voltage will cause identical proportional variations in the plate current.
The plate current is progressively reduced as the grid is made more negative with respect to the cathode.
This effect occurred especially in pulse and digital circuits, where tubes had no plate current flowing for extended times.
Changing the grid voltage will change the plate current; by suitable choice of a plate load resistor, amplification is obtained.
